Marian Douglas Honored with National Award

REYNOLDS/WARNER ROBINS/UPATOI/PERRY –Flint Energies Manager of Public Relations Marian Douglas has received the 2008 Michael Graznak Award honoring individuals under age 36 who have demonstrated both achievement and promise in the cooperative communications field. The award, first presented in 1977, memorializes a Missouri cooperative communicator who died while on assignment.

The annual award is made to one communicator who works for a US cooperative business by the Cooperative Communicators Association (CCA).

Douglas has more than 14 years' experience in public relations, with 10 of those spent serving the electric cooperative industry. While working for an advertising agency in South Carolina, she managed advertising and public relations for 21 electric cooperatives in South Carolina and Georgia. Her resume also includes a stint at Santee Electric Cooperative as community relations manager. While there, she successfully managed the cooperative's crisis communications efforts during Hurricane Floyd in 1999. She also previously held positions at advertising agencies, was a legislative aide and served as executive director of a chamber of commerce before joining Flint.

"Marian came to Flint, and to Georgia, in late 2004 with respect for cooperative tradition, as well as a fresh perspective and innovative mind that would consolidate and exploit our communication tools and opportunities," recalls Robert Ray Jr., CEO of Flint Energies.

Nominators said Douglas is an energetic and innovative communicator whose impact has included “more focused connections with members, more effective methods with employees and more engaging avenues with the community.”

Douglas holds the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) certification from the Public Relations Society of America and the Certified Cooperative Communicator (CCC) designation from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Currently, she is a director on the CCC Program Board and a member of CCA's Publicity Committee.

New Member Center Opens Monday, July 21

Flint Energies has announced its new Member Center for Houston County will open on Monday morning, July 21 at 8 a.m. The new building at 98 Carl Vinson Parkway is replacing the 1600 Elberta Road office which will close for the final time on Friday, July 18 at 5 p.m.

According to Jimmy Autry, Sr. Vice President for Flint, other changes will take place that affect members of the not-for-profit electric cooperative.

“Not only will our Elberta Road office be closed and replaced by the new Carl Vinson location, but customer service will no longer be offered at the Flint Service Center (900 Hwy 96) next to Houston County High School,” said Autry. “These changes will give our members much better service at the new building, and the Service Center will return to its role as a back office engineering and operations location.”

The new building features more drive-through lanes, easier access to counter representatives, and greater privacy in the member transactions.

In addition, Flint is announcing new bill payment options which will make paying in person much easier. “Concurrent with the opening of our new building, we have signed agreements with Atlantic Southern Bank to allow them to accept Flint bill payments in a real-time fashion,” according to Autry. “Members who pay their bills at Atlantic Southern branches will have their Flint records updated as soon as they are paid,” Autry added. “We will begin with the Atlantic Southern Bank branch in Roberta and move to add Byron and Bonaire bank locations as the year progresses.”
