JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for all buildings and office equipment to ensure optimal company efficiency which includes basic wiring, plumbing, routine building/fixture maintenance, office furniture assembly, and troubleshooting various building systems.  Prepares material lists and time estimates for various projects, maintains and constructs all building locks, and performs other duties as required or directed. 

EDUCATION / TRAINING

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years’ experience in general contractor-type work including electrical wiring, carpentry, sheetrock, plumbing, insulation, painting, and masonry

Preferred:

  • Electrical license, HVAC certification, and/or plumbing license
  • HVAC and low voltage wiring experience
  • Security alarm system experience
  • Basic computer experience
  • Commercial Driver’s License
  • Experience in EPDM roofing and repairs

KNOWLEDGE / INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Required:

  • General understanding of commercial metal buildings, metal studs, seamless and overlap metal roofs, metal trim, and gutters
  • Familiarity with terms used in construction of buildings including framing, electrical, plumbing, and finish work
  • Ability to estimate materials and labor requirements for construction projects
  • Ability to perform basic math functions to formulate material estimates and labor costs
  • Ability to read and understand building plans, project time requirements, and schedule work accordingly
  • Ability to manage and schedule multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and guide or direct others to completion
  • Good organizational and recordkeeping skills with ability to efficiently manage time and projects
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local building laws, codes, and regulations
  • Working knowledge of hand tools including volt meter, saws, and drills 
  • General knowledge of locks and door closers
  • Positive attitude and willingness to be a team player in support of exceptional internal and external customer service which should be evidenced from prior work experience
  • Good interpersonal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Basic concepts of furniture assembly
  • General knowledge of commercial flushing system, water closet, and lavatory

WORKING HOURS

  • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with one hour for lunch.  Must be willing to work after hours and be accessible by phone. 

OTHER

  • Must have and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license with a verifiable safe driving record (MVR required).  Commercial Driver’s License preferred.

ALERTNESS & CONCENTRATION

Maintains full alertness and concentration at all times.

ABILITY TO DEAL WITH STRESS

Must be able to handle pressure of meeting scheduled / unscheduled deadlines.

VISION

Far Visual Acuity - As necessary to drive, operate equipment, assess the status of fixtures on top of buildings and structures.

Near Visual Acuity - Necessary for reading blueprints, written reports, operating controls, installation instructions on equipment, and identifying materials.

Peripheral Vision - As necessary for driving and operating equipment safely.

Color Vision - Judges red, green and yellow traffic lights adequately to drive; colored indicator lights on equipment; and following wiring in equipment.

Depth Perception - Needed to judge distance when driving. 

Night Vision - Same as above when working at night and in poor light.

HEARING

Hears and understands spoken conversation while working despite heavy background noise from equipment.

SPEECH

Speaks loudly and clearly enough to be accurately understood.  Speaks clearly when communicating by telephone.

SITTING

Sitting 20 - 50% of working hours when making signs or key cores or while driving to and from work sites.  May sit 1 - 4 hours in eight hour day. 

STANDING

Standing 70 - 100% of working hours.  Surface may be concrete, asphalt, carpet, uneven ground, or ladders.

WORKER MOBILITY

Can change positions frequently.  Limited when performing some duties. When operating equipment, somewhat limited. 

WALKING

100 yards on concrete or carpet.  Most is 30 feet at one time once at job site.  Outside jobs may be on uneven ground.

LIFTING / CARRYING

0 - 10 pounds - continuous - tools, supplies.

11 - 20 pounds - frequent - tools, supplies.

21 - 50 pounds - intermittent - supplies.

51 - 75 pounds - intermittent.

PUSHING / PULLING

Frequently pushes/pulls when using hand tools, moving furniture, and assembling.

BENDING

Bends from waist and knees frequently.

REACHING / HANDLING

Regular use of hands and wrists.  Grips tools several minutes at a time.  Operates controls on tools.  Writes requisitions and records core locations.

TWISTING

Twists frequently when working in limited spaces to make repairs.

CLIMBING / CRAWLING

Frequently climbs ladders to work in ceilings and on top of buildings.  Occasionally crawls under equipment and buildings.  Crawls in ceilings.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Performs a variety of tasks inside and outside, with temperatures varying from 32 degrees or below to 90 degrees or above - sometimes in adverse conditions.  Works around low voltage.  Frequently exposed to noise from equipment and tools.  Exposed to chemically-treated wood, wood dust after drilling or sawing, paint, and solvents.

MACHINES / TOOLS/ EQUIPMENT

Power tools, hand tools, jack hammers, chain saws, backhoe, table saw, router, plainer, voltmeter, and fork lift.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT / SAFETY LOSS CONTROL PROCEDURES

Hard hat, safety glasses, works gloves.

DRUG TEST / PHYSICAL EXAM

Drug test required for pre-employment and random thereafter.  Employment entrance exam required.
